Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) Coordinating Unit (CU) in collaboration with its partners will host the 12th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) on December 7-9, 2022

The Coordinating Unit (CU) of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) in collaboration with its partners will host the 12th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) on December 7-9, 2022 at the Savannah Beach Resort & Spa, Barbados.  This year’s event is headlined by The Honourable Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister - Barbados and is the region’s premier event on disaster risk management which is being delivered under the theme: “CDM Road to Resilience: Checkpoint 2022 - Advancing a Risk-based Multi-hazard Approach during COVID-19 & Beyond”.

This seminal event is the Caribbean’s largest gathering of professionals in the field of disaster management and is scheduled to bring together over 1,000 delegates in person and online.  The event curates a platform for professional development for disaster risk management (DRM).  Over the 5 days, this hybrid event will result in the advancement of dialogue and the agitation of action among attendees through high-engagement sessions featuring: keynote discussions, roundtable sessions, plenaries featuring ministerial sessions, learning labs, fire-side chats, virtual exhibitions and youth forums.

As the region seeks to fast-track post COVID-19 recovery and build a resilient Caribbean, organisations and communities have a critical role to play in building resilience. Consequently, the 12th CDM Conference will focus on:

  • Facilitating knowledge exchanges on pathways to resilience using a risk-based multi-hazard approach.
  • Highlighting progress towards the achievement of CDM results within the priority areas of Institutional Strengthening, Knowledge Management, Sector Mainstreaming and Community Resilience.
  • Showcasing relevant research and applicable tools for the advancement of CDM in the region.
  • Highlighting challenges and opportunities for CDM based on lessons learned from COVID-19 and the multi-hazard environment in the Caribbean.
  • Providing a forum for the engagement and empowerment of youth in supporting the DRM agenda
  • Strengthening DRM capabilities of CDM Stakeholders.
