Job Description:

MINISTRY:                           Education, Youth, Culture, Social & Library Services

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a supervisory position responsible primarily for the safety of pupils crossing the road at a designated point or points on their journeys to and from school and ensuring that pupils remain in class while school is in session.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist pupils in crossing the streets to and from the school premises
  2. To operate hazard warning signs as appropriate
  3. To effectively maintain control over pupils who are awaiting instructions to cross the street in order to keep them in a safe and secure environment
  4. To control traffic at crossing sites and identify any roadside hazards, reporting them as necessary to the Principal.
  5. To use all uniform and equipment provided for personal safety and for the safety of pupils and other road users, especially when assisting pupils across the Highway
  6. Direct vehicles near the school premises as pupils dislodge and embark
  7. Ensure that pupils do not loiter outside the school gates or around the fences and walls
  8. Ensure that pupils do not leave the school premises without proper authorisation
  9. Ensure that pupils only leave the school with the persons authorised to take them from the premises
  10. Monitor the school’s compound to ensure that pupils do not remain out of class for extended periods
  11. Patrol the school premises during break and lunch periods
  12. Investigate any suspicious activity or abnormal behaviour on or around the school premises, reporting them to the Principal.
  13. To safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils for whom you have responsibility or come into contact with, to include adhering to all specified procedures.
  14. Maintain a logbook of the daily activities
  15. Direct all visitors to the Principal’s office
  16. To comply with all Health and Safety policy and legislation in the performance of the duties of the post to ensure the policies, standards and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education and other relevant bodies in respect of Health and safety at Work are implemented and complied with.
  17. Perform any other duty that is consistent with the purpose of the job and which may, from time to time, be assigned by the Principal or Vice Principal.
  18. Adhere to all Public Service codes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • A High School Diploma with three (3) or more CXC’s, GCE or equivalent including English Language.  A certificate of fitness to work with children is desirable.
  • The position requires a minimum of one (1) year on the job experience to acquire the necessary competencies to respond effectively to the challenges of the job.

SALARY – Grade 4.1 $21,935.00 per annum
