Job Description:

MINISTRY:                           Education, Youth, Culture, Social and Library Services

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a professional position which has responsibility for the instruction and supervision of students in primary schools.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach all areas of the primary curriculum.
  2. Take responsibility for the progress of a class of primary students.
  3. Supervising and disciplining students as required.
  4. Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive learning environment.
  5. Motivate students with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations/lessons.
  6. Plan, prepare and present lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the class.
  7. Maintain discipline.
  8. Prepare and mark assignments, class work, and projects to facilitate positive student development.
  9. Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of students' development.
  10. Prepare students for national examinations.
  11. Provide feedback to parents on student’s progress at parents’ evenings and other meetings.
  12. Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum and support colleagues in delivering of this specialist area.
  13. Work with others to plan and coordinate work.
  14. Stay up to date with changes and developments in the primary curriculum and child development.
  15. Coordinate field trips and facilitate additional learning experiences for students.
  16. Take part in school events and activities which may take place on weekends or in the evenings.
  17. Liaise with colleagues and work flexibly, particularly in smaller schools.
  18. Engaging in continuing professional development activities whether self-directed or initiated by the school/Ministry of Education.
  19. Work with parents and the department and sister agencies to maximise the involvement in the school and the development of the resources of the school.
  20. Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor's degree in in education with a speciality in primary or relevant academic discipline AND
  • A teacher's certificate or diploma (The certificate or diploma may be encompassed in the degree).
  • Minimum of one (1) year’s teaching practice experience in a classroom setting at the primary school level.

For Vocational Teachers:

  • An industry standard qualification (e.g. City and Guilds) in a relevant vocational discipline AND
  • A teacher's certificate or diploma  AND
  • Associated vocational experience of a minimum of three (3) years.

SALARY: $35,926.25 per annum plus allowances

For persons recruited outside of the Turks & Caicos Islands a two year extendable contract is offered. Other benefits in addition to basic salary include a Housing Allowance, End-of contract gratuity of 10%, return passages for a family of up to two children under the age of 18 years, freight cost and duty exemption on personal effects imported within six months of the appointment.
