Under the supervision of the Dean, the job holder is responsible for the coordination, implementation and administration of counselling programmes to facilitate the psychological, social, emotional and career development of learners.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
1. Administrative Duties
a. Conducts recruitment, selection and orientation of learners under established standards and procedures.
b. Utilises the Learning Management System (LMS) and the National Qualifications Register (NQR) to ensure/access timely and accurate leaner information for decision making.
c. Conducts online counselling via Career Development and Employment Facilitation (CARDEF), email and other approved communication media.
d. Develops and implements systems to ensure the integrity of confidential information.
e. Conducts research to keep abreast of labour market trends in various industries.
f.Participates in the development and implementation of strategies to increase public awareness and visibility of the institution.
g. Participates in the preparation of the annual budget and operational plans for the institution to support the achievement of the organisation’s strategic objectives.
h. Participates in the implementation and monitoring of preventive maintenance programmes for the institution’s physical assets, ensuring compliance with the organisation’s Safety Housekeeping Improvement and Maintenance Programme (SHIP) standards.
2. Counselling and Career Development
a. Guides the design and implementation of a Career Development Plan for learners.
b. Guides learners on matters relating to educational, vocational, psycho-social and economic issues.
c. Conducts individual and group counselling and implements appropriate intervention strategies.
d. Develops and implements strategies for the integration of employability skills in the training programme.
e. Develops appropriate counselling strategies and methods to enhance learning, coping and improving individual achievements.
f. Conducts individual career counselling with internal and external customers.
3. Training Administration
a. Establishes and maintains confidential records of counselling sessions with learners.
b. Develops, implements and monitors mentorship, peer counselling and other learner assistance programmes.
c. Supervises the planning and implementation of the Leadership Development Programme for learners.
d. Liaises with the (learners’) Leadership Council and provides feedback to the institution’s administration.
e. Participates in the implementation and maintenance of quality assurance systems to ensure that the Accredited Training Organisations (ATOs) status is achieved and maintained.
f. Participates in the evaluation of training programmes and recommends modifications where necessary.
g. Requisitions and disburses training materials under established inventory control procedures.
h. Supervises learner welfare and developmental programmes/ activities.
4. Training Facilitation
a. Plans and facilitates classes in guidance/career counselling.
b. Prepares and administers assessment of learners per established standards and procedures.
c. Prepares, implements and reviews lesson plans in accordance with established standards and procedures.
d. Manages learner records.
e. Ensures learners participate in the operations of the commercial unit under established procedures.
a. Coordinates/supervises extracurricular, evening and weekend activities, where applicable.
b. Participates in cross-functional and other team activities.
c. Monitors attendance and participates in study activities, where applicable.
d. Conducts review of systems and programmes in collaboration with relevant departments and recommends changes, where necessary.
e. Performs any other related duties that may be assigned.
f. Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations
g. Perform other related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work or Guidance Counselling or Career Counselling
- At least two (2) years of teaching experience
- At least four (4) years’ experience in Career/Guidance Counselling
SALARY: Grade 8 - $51,147.50 per annum
