Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

This professional position has system wide responsibility for providing accurate legal advice to the Commissioner of Police and efficient representation where necessary on all aspects of civil litigation, HR and broader legal advice concerning systems and processes.  The Senior Crown Counsel is expected to generate satisfactory results when timely legal advice is provided and is credible and rarely results in litigation against the RTCIPF or its officers and staff.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide timely advice to the Commissioner of Police and other Officers as directed.
  2. Provide legal awareness training where necessary to mitigate and reduce the risk of civil litigation
  3. Conduct research of complex areas of law
  4. Prepare and conduct civil proceedings/litigation, including those related to international matters and civil asset recovery, brought by and against the RTCIPF before the various courts and tribunal in the Turks and Caicos Islands
  5. Negotiate, prepare and review contracts and commercial documents on behalf of the RTCIPF
  6. Provide legal advice to all RTCIPF departments
  7. Execute and respond to international requests on behalf of the RTCIPF
  8. Conduct seminars and train personnel in RTCIPF departments on legal issues regarding their work
  9. Undertake other tasks assigned by the Commissioner of Police
  10. Adhere to the RTCIPF Codes of Ethics, rules and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:

Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor of Laws or its equivalent. In addition to a Bachelor of Laws the position requires that the job holder possess a Legal Profession Certificate or its equivalent as well as specialized training in commercial law, civil law and/or international law. The job holder must be qualified and eligible to practice in a Commonwealth Law Jurisdiction or the Republic of Ireland.

Experience:

This position requires a Bachelor of Laws or its equivalent. In addition to a Bachelor of Law, the position requires that the job holder possess a Legal Profession Certificate or its equivalent as well as specialized training in commercial law, civil law and/or international law. The job holder must be qualified and eligible to practice in a Commonwealth Law Jurisdiction or the Republic of Ireland.

SALARY: Grade 9      $61,935.00 per annum

ALLOWANCE:               $2,400.00 Per annum

For persons recruited from outside of the Turks and Islands, a two (2) year contract extendable on mutual agreement.  Other benefits, in addition to the stated allowances, include an end-of-contract gratuity of 6% of salary; return passage, for family of up to two children up to the age of eighteen (18) years as well as duty free concession on the shipment of personal effects imported within six (6) months of appointment.
