JOB SUMMARY:

This is a professional position which has responsibility for the instruction and supervision of students enrolled in Programs at the Special Needs Unit/ SNAP center.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Teaches all areas of the special education curriculum
2. Takes responsibility for the progress of all students attending the SNAP Center
3. Supervises and disciplines students as required
4. Organizes the classroom and learning resources to create a positive learning environment
5. Motivates students with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations/lessons
6. Plans, prepares and presents lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the class
7. Prepares and marks assignments, class work, and projects to facilitate positive student development
8. Meets requirements for the assessment and recording of students' development
9. Provides feedback to parents on student’s progress at parents’ evenings and other meetings
10. Coordinates activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum and support colleagues in delivering of this specialist area
11. Works with others to plan and coordinate work
12. Coordinates field trips and facilitate additional learning experiences for students
13. Takes part in school events and activities which may take place on weekends or in the evenings
14. Liaises with colleagues and work flexibly, particularly in smaller schools
15. Engages in continuing professional development activities whether self-directed or initiated by the school/Ministry of Education
16. Works with parents and the department and sister agencies to maximize the involvement in the school and the development of the resources of the school
