Civil Service Training

The staff within the Civil Service is at the front line of dealing with the public at large and ought to be able to provide the first line of defense for human rights. The TCIHRC see the role of the Civil servants as vital in ensuring that people's rights are upheld, to accomplish this, the TCIHRC provides human rights training to the staff on an-going basis and is held in Providenciales and Grand Turk. The training consists of Power Point presentations and a video of the history of Human Rights. The training sessions lasts for a full day and is taught by the Director; and covers the Constitution order 2011 - Fundamental Rights and Freedoms of the Individual, and the international conventions that covers the European Convention on Human Rights, the International Convention on Civil and political Rights and the International Convention on Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights. The training involves information handouts, activity exercises addressing gender inequality and situational cases that highlights human rights violations encouraging participant interactive discussions. Following the training the participants all receive Certificates of completion. To date training provide to staff of the Civil service amounts to One Hundred and Ten, the human rights training has become a fixture on the general Civil Service Training Calendar and is featured for all staff during their orientation.
