Adopt-A-Highway Programme

The Turks and Caicos Islands Adopt-A-Highway Programme is an initiative which aims to provide an avenue for individuals and organisations to assist in the reduction of litter and the beautification of selected roadways throughout our islands. This project will be implemented in multiple phases, the first of which will occur in Providenciales along Leeward Highway. Interested citizens and groups seeking to participate in the programme have the option to participate as volunteers or hire an approved maintenance service provider to perform the work on their behalf.

Adopt-A-Roundabout Programme

Ban on Plastics and Polystyrenes

As of April 15th 2019 a ban on single-use plastic bags came into effect in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Persons are no longer able to import single-use plastic bags as defined by the Plastic and other Single Use Products (Use and Waste Management) Bill 2019.

A total ban subsequently came into effect on May 1st 2019 prohibiting the importation, use, sale and distribution of single-use plastic bags in Turks and Caicos Islands.

Cabinet then approved on May 29th 2019 a Ban on Polystyrenes and plastic straws. The policy aims to reduce the use and importation of some polystyrene products including single-use Styrofoam cups and plates and will also officially ban the use and importation of plastic straws. The restriction of the importation of Polystyrene products and plastic straws came into force in December 2019.

A total ban on the importation, sale and use of Polystyrenes and plastic straws subsequently came into effect on 1st April 2020.
