The Ministry of Health, Agriculture, Sports and Human Services through the Health Promotion and Advocacy Unit, Special Needs Unit in collaboration with Senior Citizens groups observes Caribbean Wellness nationwide again during the entire month of September 2019.

Caribbean Wellness Day is celebrated annually on the second Saturday in September throughout the Caribbean Region. This year it will be celebrated, on the 14th of September. The aim is to increase awareness and promote activities to address the epidemic of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which continues to severely impact the health, economy, and development of the region including the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Each year, the overall theme of Caribbean Wellness Day is “Love that body.”  Aside from the overall theme, Caribbean Wellness Day also has a special theme. This year, the theme is “Healthy Aging Starts Now.”

Hon. Edwin Astwood Minister of Health Agriculture, Sports and Human Services stated; “We have to start eating what’s good and avoiding what’s bad” he further stated that positive aging starts from birth, the way we care for our children, the way we educate our people, taking into consideration all stages of the lifecycle.” Research has shown that regular exercise and physical activity can reduce the risk of developing some diseases and disabilities that occur with aging.
