On Tuesday, 17 December 2019, the Premier Hon. Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson laid the Constitution Committee’s Report on proposals for changes to the TCI Constitution on Table of the Honourable House of Assembly thereby making it a public document.
In laying the report, the Premier stated, “The Committee as persons would know, was jointly appointed by the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition. It was tasked with the responsibility to travel around the Islands and to present proposals for consideration and to invite fresh proposals. The Committee was chaired for the first time by the Hon Attorney General and the members were the Hon Deputy Premier, Hon. Sean Astwood and the Member for Cheshire Hall, Hon. Douglas Parnell; both appointed by the Premier. The other two appointments made by the Leader of the Opposition were the member for Leeward and Long Bay, Hon. Akierra Missick and Hon. Ricardo Donhue Gardiner.
The report was submitted on November 15th to both myself and the Leader of the Opposition. I wish to express thanks to this members.
It is my intention to debate this Report in January 2020.”
The Premier expressed that while she intends to debate the report in January 2020, it is her intention to agree a course with the Leader of the Opposition. Once debated, a TCI delegation will travel to the UK to discuss the proposals which will be formally submitted to UK Government.
