Project Goal
To introduce best practices while improving teachers' confidence, competence, and skills in using tools and integrating ICT in classroom activities.
Project Description
To build capacity and ensure teachers within the Turks and Caicos Islands are equipped to engage the 21st-century child, the Department of Education launched a series titled "ICT Training: Equipping the 21st Century Teacher" for all public and private primary and secondary school teachers in the country. This series will commence on February 22 and conclude on May 5, 2022. Teachers will be exposed to training in applications and platforms such as ePortfolios, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Forms, Microsoft OneNote, Microsoft OneDrive, GeoGebra, Math is Fun, Excel, Canva, Kahoot and OpenEMIS. Our goal is to close these uncertainty gaps and address issues as we equip our teachers with the necessary skills to improve the teaching and learning process.
This initiative is driven by the words of John Dewey "If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow. The graduating class of 2025 will be nothing like the graduating class of 2020; our education system will prepare students for the future differently than it has in the past. We must rethink our roles as educators and ensure students are provided with the necessary skills to function effectively in the world they are inheriting.
The Department is drawing on the skills and expertise of several local facilitators to deliver this exciting and transformative series. It is intended to be an ongoing programme designed to expose each teacher to new approaches as we equip each child with the skills and knowledge that will put them on a path to success in the new technologically advanced era.
