BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS PUBLIC FORECAST

FORECAST ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 A.M. EDT, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, FOR TODAY, TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS.

WARNING IN EFFECT: A GALE WARNING (34 to 40 knots or higher) is currently in effect for the Northern, Northwest and Central Bahamas. Strong to gale-force winds and hazardous marine conditions are expected. A GALE WATCH (28 to 33 knots) is in effect for the Southeast Bahamas including the Turks and Caicos Islands.

GENERAL SITUATION: A strong high pressure ridge supporting a tight pressure gradient, will continue to support fresh to near gale force winds and rough seas across the island chain over the next few days. Meanwhile, a trough near the southeastern islands combined with streaming moisture, will support quick moving showers.

SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Beachgoers are advised to exercise extreme caution due to an elevated risk of rip currents and rough surf mainly along northern and eastern shorelines. Extreme caution should be taken when traversing coastal roads due to sea spray, and overtopping waves, especially along northern and eastern shorelines and in vicinity of the Glass Window Bridge in Eleuthera.

SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS (INCLUDING INAGUA, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS, ACKLINS, CROOKED ISLAND, MAYAGUANA, RAGGED ISLAND & ADJACENT WATERS): SKY CONDITIONS: Partly cloudy to cloudy and windy PRECIPITATION: 30 – 50% chance of showers with thunderstorms.
