public notice: 6 days weather forecast november 03 2024

BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS PUBLIC FOR

FORECAST ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 A.M. EDT, Saturday, November 2, 2024, FOR TODAY, TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS.

WARNING IN EFFECT: A gale warning (34-40kt or higher) is in effect for the Southeast Bahamas, and will come into effect for the Central Bahamas by this afternoon. A gale watch remains in effect for the Northern and Northwest Bahamas.

GENERAL SITUATION: Strong to gale force winds will impact the island chain, due to the interaction of a persistent surface ridge north of the Bahamas, and the presence of a broad, elongated developing area of low pressure emanating from the Caribbean Sea. Scattered to widespread showers may be experienced across portions of the Southeast Bahamas beginning this afternoon, as the northern extent of the low approaches the area through tonight.

Outlook: Robust winds will continue to pulse across the Bahamas through to midweek. Associated showers and thunderstorms will impact portions of the Bahamas, as the low skirts westwards across the Northern Caribbean Sea/Cuba as a possible tropical cyclone. Winds will relax slightly, with weather conditions gradually improving across the area by the end of next week, as the system moves into the Gulf of Mexico.

SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Beachgoers are advised to refrain from entering the waters along northern, eastern and Atlantic shorelines due to high seas and the high risk of potentially life threatening rip currents in rough and dangerous surf. Residents in the Southeast Bahamas residing in low lying and flood prone areas should be vigilant for localized and possible extensive flooding during heavy and prolonged rainfall events. The public is reminded that Daylight Savings Time will end on Sunday (November 3rd), and to set clocks back an hour.
