Alert #7 on Potential Tropical Cyclone Twenty-Two, issued by The Bahamas Department of Meteorology on Friday, 17th November, 2023 at 11am EST.

...DISTURBANCE’S CHANCE OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE IS DECREASING…BUT HEAVY RAINS AND FLOODING WILL CONTINUE TO BE A THREAT ACROSS JAMAICA, EASTERN CUBA AND HAITI…

A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for the entire Turks and Caicos Islands.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that Tropical Storm conditions could be experienced in the mentioned area within 48 hours.  

At 11am EST, the Disturbance was centered near Latitude 17.5 degrees north and Longitude 79.1 degrees west, or about 535 miles southwest of Providenciales, Turk and Caicos Islands.

The system is moving toward the northeast near 14 mph and an additional acceleration toward the northeast is expected through the weekend. On the forecast track, the center of the system is expected to move across Jamaica later today, Southeastern Cuba by early Saturday, and the Southeastern Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts.  Some slight strengthening is possible during the next couple of days, but the system’s chance of becoming a tropical cyclone appears to be decreasing.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Twenty-two is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches with isolated amounts of up to 4 to 6 inches and possible Tropical Storm winds over the Southeast Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday.  Residents in the Turks and Caicos Islands should begin preparing for possible Tropical Storm winds and flooding beginning on Saturday.
