BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS PUBLIC FORECAST

FORECAST ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 A.M. EDT, Monday, November 4, 2024, FOR TODAY, TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS.

WARNING IN EFFECT: A gale warning is in effect for the Southeast Bahamas the Turks and Caicos Islands until noon today, thereafter a near gale watch comes into effect. A gale warning is in effect for the Northwest and Central Bahamas. Boaters across the entire chain of islands, especially small craft, are advised to remain in port until further notice due to gale, and hazardous marine conditions. Dangerous high surf and life-threatening rip currents will affect east coastal waters (especially Atlantic exposures) during the next couple of days. A marginal threat of isolated strong thunderstorms is in place for the Central and Southeast Bahamas including the Turks and Caicos Islands.

GENERAL SITUATION: A tight pressure gradient between a westward moving trough of low pressure across the Southeast Bahamas and building high pressure north of the area will support strong to near gale force winds and hazardous marine conditions across the island chain over the next few days. Squally showers, thunderstorms along with strong gusty winds to gale force and possibly strong gale (41-47kt) will accompany the trough of low pressure impacting mainly the Southeast and Central Bahamas today and the remainder of the islands through Tuesday.

SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Hazardous marine and beaching conditions will persist across the chain of islands therefore mariners should remain in port due to rough seas and moderate to large swells and beachgoers and swimmers should refrain from entering the waters due to the high risk of dangerous surf and rip currents. Some coastal flooding and beach erosion is likely along east coast and Atlantic exposures especially at high tide. Caution should be taken when traversing east coastal roads and on crossing the Glass Window Bridge in Eleuthera.

SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS (INCLUDING INAGUA, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS, ACKLINS, CROOKED ISLAND, MAYAGUANA, RAGGED ISLAND & ADJACENT WATERS): SKY CONDITIONS: Mostly cloudy. PRECIPITATION: 40-50% chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. WINDS: East to Southeast at 15 to 25 knots and gusty at times.
