public notice: tropical weather outlook october 18 2024

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK:  Two areas of interest are being monitored:

  • A poorly-defined trough of low pressure near the Leeward Islands (AL94): System has a low chance of development (10%) over the next 48 hours and 7 days.
  • A broad area of low pressure in the western Caribbean Sea (AL95):System has a medium chance of development (50%) over the next 48 hours and 7 days, with locally heavy rainfall possible across portions of Central America and southern Mexico through the weekend.

A trough of low pressure (AL94) located North of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Island is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorm. Development, if any, should be slow to occur whilst it moves quickly westward to north westward at 20 mph.

Interest in the Turks and Caicos Islands can anticipate ‘partly cloudy’ to ‘cloudy and very windy’ with ‘isolated to a few widely scattered showers’ and ‘isolated thunderstorms’. Some showers may become heavy and thunderstorms may become strong to severe at times. It is anticipated  to have a 20-40% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
