Do I need to Apply for Naturalization

Given that the Turks and Caicos Islands is a British Overseas Territory, our citizenship, and our ability to obtain a Turks and Caicos Islands passport is governed by the British Nationality Act. Some Turks and Caicos Islanders (Belongers) are automatically British Overseas Territory Citizens (BOTC) and so do not need to apply for naturalization while others, depending on the circumstances at their birth are not, and so they will have apply.

How to Apply for Naturalization

• First, read this document to find out if you need to apply or qualify to apply
• Fill in the appropriate application form (Click below ).

• Section 15(3) of the British Nationality Act 1981
• Section 15(4) of the British Nationality Act 1981
• Section 17(1) of the British Nationality Act 1981
• Section 17(2) of the British Nationality Act 1981
• Section 17(5) of the British Nationality Act 1981
• Section 18(1) of the British Nationality Act 1981
• Section 18(2) of the British Nationality Act 1981

• Submit ALL the required ORIGINAL documents to . (If you do not supply all the documents this will result in delays processing your application).
• Attend the One Stop Shop in Grand Turk or Providenciales or the Immigration Department in North or South Caicos
• Pay the relevant fee. (If it is determined that you do not need to be naturalized or you do not qualify a portion of the fee will be return)
• Give your documents to the public officer along with a copy of your payment receipt.

What are the Fees

• Naturalization/Registration of a person of full age as a BOTC..........$900
• Registration of a minor as a BOTC...............................................$500
• Registration of a declaration of Renunciation................................$300
• Supply a certificate or other copy of a notice or certificate..............$50
• Administering the Oath of Allegiances..........................................$10

When will I receive my Certificate

• Allow 3-4 months for your application to be processed.
• If your application is successful and it is necessary for to take an oath you will be contacted and given an appointment time to take an Oath of Allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen. You will be given the certificate at the Swearing Ceremony.
• If your application was not successful you will be given a written letter telling you that you do not meet the criteria to be granted citizenship. The payment received is non-refundable.
