Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Environment, Heritage, Maritime, Gaming and Agriculture World Earth Day 2021

On 22nd April 2021 the Ministry of Tourism through the Department of Agriculture will celebrate World Earth Day under the theme “Together, we can restore our Earth”. As part of its Public-Private Partnership Programme the Department has partnered with Graceway Communities and the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources to raise awareness on the importance of growing food to the environment.

World Earth Day is celebrated across the globe to demonstrate support for environmental protection; it includes a wide range of events coordinated globally.

In commemoration of the day free expert advice will be provided, patrons will get to meet and support local farmers, including giveaways of free seedlings that will help with the start of local farming.

Minister of Agriculture Hon. Josephine Connolly commented, “I am pleased with this initiative and encourage persons to engage in backyard farming which is a step towards building our local food economy and certainly is a more sustainable way of living. The impact on the environment is a positive one and the overall mental health benefits are exponential. I look forward to seeing backyard gardens across the Islands as we seek to “Grow TCI” and restore the earth.”

Activity will be held at the Graceway IGA, Leeward Highway, between 10:00.a.m-4:00.p.m 22nd April 2021. Where Minister Conolly, members from the Department of Agriculture, DECR, Graceway Communities and local farmers will be present.
