About Us

The Office of the Accountant General (Treasury) is responsible for managing government’s financial affairs. Supporting efficient and sustainable public financial management is fundamental to the promotion of economic development, good governance, social progress and a rising standard of living for the Turks and Caicos. The department is mandated to ensure transparency, accountability and sound financial controls in the management of public finances. 

The functions of the department are strategic in several ways. As part of its main functions it is charged with the responsibility of formulating financial and accounting policies. It is also responsible for developing and maintaining sound fiscal financial policies that facilitate socio - economic development.

Other strategic responsibilities of the department is the management of revenues, expenditures and borrowing by the government. The department must ensure that it mobilises and makes available adequate financial resources to support government programmes and activities. Consequently, the department has the task of developing sound fiscal policies that ensure sustainable budget with no deficits. In addition the department must ensure that government expenditure is within the revenue collected for the fiscal period to avoid the need for any new borrowing.

The department also play a pivotal role provide policy direction in the identification, planning and management of donor support to ensure that it is targeted to those areas of the economy that the donors designate.

The department has established operating units and strategic locations to effectively deliver on its mandate, with offices in Providenciales, North Caicos, South Caicos and 2 locations in the capital Grand Turk.  The department has in place the Accountant General, 3 Assistant Accountant Generals, Financial Managers and Software Support; each is responsible for respective assigned tasks.

  • Division 1 is responsible for revenue collection and administration of public property.  
  • Division 2 handles the financial controls, payment and payroll functions.
  • Division 3 is responsible for preparing and presenting monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual financial reports, bank reconciliation and the management of government debts, supported by a new team of financial managers and officers.
