The Department of Citizenship and Naturalization under the Ministry of Home Affairs attended a two-day course on Nationality training at the British Consulate General in Miami from October 10-11.
The 2-day session was attended by Mr. Larry Mills, Director of Citizenship and Naturalization, and Ms. Widwina Ariza, Senior Citizenship Case worker Supervisor. The areas of discussion were wide ranging, covering many subjects relating to British Overseas Territories Registration and Naturalization.
Some of the topics included:
- Overview of legislations
- Overview of naturalization and registration
- Good character requirements /policy
- New and recent legislation changes
- Illegal Migration Act
- and Routes to naturalize or Register as a BOTC.
Speaking on the training session, Ms. Ariza stated the two-day training course was very informative. It helped us to gain a clearer understanding of the BNA to execute our applications and to assist our customers with any queries.
Director Mills added, the course was entirely beneficial as it provided lasting networking connection with the other BOTC's , key legislation changes and renewed awareness to all BOTC' on the BNA 1981.
Over the coming months, the Citizenship and Naturalization department will move towards the implementation of some of the key recommendations that applies to all the British Overseas Territories, at which point the public will be notified of the same.
