British Overseas Territories Citizen Temporary Passport
- Medical emergencies certified by the relevant Health Care facility or authorities. Request from InterHealth Canada regarding an emergency transfer of a patient to another country outside of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
- Please note that the emergency procedure does not apply to the applicant's family members.
- Urgent business travel by government officials and parliamentarians.
The following documents are not accepted:
- undetailed medical certificates. Certificates must state the applicant’s or the family member’s serious condition and destination for medical treatment.
- Travel tickets for holidays or invitation letters from family members or acquaintances.
- a self-declaration in lieu of proper evidence of the emergency.
- School trips.
Application Process
Step 1: Email formal request with detailed explanation to the Director of Citizenship and Naturalization.
Step 2: Wait for a response advising of submission of application and fees.
Step 3: Collect the temporary passport upon notice.
Emergency Travel Document (ETD)
Emergency travel documents are for specific travel and may be obtained if you are experiencing an emergency and is unable to obtain a valid passport. Traveling with an ETD is subject to acceptance by the designated airlines and country of destination.

Applications via the spouse of Turks and Caicos Islander route are to be submitted to the:
c/o Customer Service Centres on the islands of Grand Turk and Providenciales and Immigration Department on the Islands of South Caicos and North Caicos
Application Process
Step 1: Email formal request with detailed explanation to the Director of Citizenship and Naturalization along with proof to support the claim.
Step 2: Wait for a decision and how to proceed.
Step 3: Collected the emergency travel document upon notice.
Requirements
- Formal submission of request with detailed explanation to the Director of Citizenship and Naturalization
- Completed form
- 2 photos (one must be certified)
- Birth certificate (certified copy)
- Proof of nationality
- Proof of legal status
- Proof to support claim
- Police report if passport is lost/stolen
- Medical referral
- Certified copy of prior/current travel document (if applicable)
- Application fee $50.00
- Processing time approximately 2 days (applications submitted on Friday will be completed on Monday)
