About Us
The Labour Tribunal is an independent arm of the government of the Turks and Caicos Islands that has been formed to provide a quick and economical forum for deciding employment disputes.
The administration of justice by the Tribunal is the responsibility of the president of the Labour Tribunal, who is appointed by the Governor and the secretary and staff members are appointed through the public commission.
The Labour Tribunal office consists of a president and two other members. The main office is in Providenciales with support in Grand Turk. The group also relies on assistance from an equal number of assessors each representing employees/employers. Assessors are nominated by or on oath on behalf of employee(s) or the employer(s). The Government of the Turks and Caicos appoints qualifying assessors (nominees) to Tribunal. Tribunal members have five year terms and their services are utilized as the President deems necessary.
The aim of the Labour Tribunal is:
- Hear disputes in essential and non- essential services.
- Hearings normally in public
- Evidence given on Oath or Affirmation
- Decisions either at the end of the hearing or at a letter date
- Hear cases throughout islands
Mission Statement
To provide a quick and economical judicial forum for deciding employment disputes and to enact rules that would enable the Labour Tribunal to deal with cases justly. Dealing with the case “justly” includes the following principles:
- Ensuring parties are on equal footing.
- Reducing expenses.
- Dealing with cases in ways proportionate to the complexity of the issues.
- Ensuring cases are dealt with fairly and expeditiously.
Vision
To have the Employment Ordinance 2004 enacted throughout the Turks & Caicos Islands in the interest of Administration of justice for locals as well as expatriates without prejudice.

Function
Overall administration including budgets: Act as Clerk at hearings/transcribe/promulgates decisions/handle correspondence/arrange hearings under judicial directions/public enquires/liaise with Department of Employment Services.

Members of the Tribunal
The Tribunal consists of a President and five other members including two ad hoc members. The President, five members including two ad hoc members and support staff is based at the Tribunal Headquarters.
Support staff means the office in Grand Turk. The President is the senior member of the Labour Tribunal. The Tribunal will have assistance from an equal number of Assessors each representing on behalf of the employee(s) or the employer(s).
The Minister of Labour appoints the qualifying Assessors (nominees) to the Tribunal. A member of the Labour Tribunal shall be appointed for a term not exceeding five (5) years. Their service will be utilized as the President deems necessary.
