The Ministry of Health advises the public that as at 12am on 10th September 2020:

The Turks & Caicos Islands has continued to see some change in its COVID-19 position since the previous update. ten (10) new cases of COVID-19 have been identified, all being located on the island of Providenciales. Nine (9) cases are contacts of known confirmed cases, one (1) case is still under investigation with no clear epidemiological link.

Four (4) new recoveries have been recorded, bringing The total number of recoveries to two hundred and seventy (270). The number of active confirmed cases in the TCI has risen to three hundred and sixty-two (362). Two (2) confirmed cases continue to be under hospital care. The Public Health Team continues to implement aggressive contact tracing and control measures in relation to all active cases.

Total confirmed positive cases identified in the TCI has increased to six hundred and thirty-eight (638). No new covid-19 related deaths have been recorded. the total number of covid-19 related deaths remains at five (5).

Forty-seven (47) new test results have been recorded by the National Public Health Laboratory, confirming ten (10) individuals positive and thirty-seven (37) individuals negative for COVID-19. To date, the TCI has recorded a total of two thousand eight hundred and fifty (2850) test results, with two thousand two hundred and twelve (2212) confirmed to be negative and six hundred and thirty-eight (638) positive confirmations. All persons confirmed not to have COVID-19, and any contacts, (if quarantined, will be removed from quarantine/observation status) are asked to continue following proper guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

The number of persons in quarantine/observation has decreased to 794. This includes: Confirmed cases (362), primary and secondary contacts of confirmed cases (432) – two (2) persons are quarantined in the government facility. Persons under observation/quarantine, that are not confirmed or suspected cases, are either not displaying symptoms or have not met the case definition.

The change in quarantine/observation numbers is as a result of the new confirmed cases and their contacts being added to quarantine/observation status; with the new recoveries, and persons whose quarantine period having expired, being removed. To date, a total of 2,225 individuals have been released from quarantine/observation status. 

Local testing is being conducted for persons in a range of categories, according to the national testing strategy. This includes frontline workers and those who may need to travel for treatment abroad. These persons would not be reflected in quarantine numbers.

The public is strongly urged to follow all health advice and guidelines from the Ministry, especially as we progress with the phased reopening.

Please note the following definitions:

  • A suspected person is someone who meets the case definition as outlined by WHO and CARPHA - and is experiencing symptoms.
  • A person in quarantine is an individual on island who may have come in proximity to suspected or confirmed cases - and have not exhibited symptoms.

Let's continue to reduce the risk by:

  1. Washing our hands for 20secs or more.
  2. Wearing of masks required in public.
  3. Practicing social distancing.
  4. Prepare your home, office and other surroundings by following the advice of the Ministry of Health and other credible health agencies.
  5. Cover your coughs and sneezes (use your elbow or a tissue which should be properly disposed of).
  6. Keep frequently touched surfaces clean e.g. tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks.
  7. Protect those who are vulnerable in the community such as the elderly or those with underlying health conditions.
  8. Do not discriminate against persons who have or are suspected of having COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health advises the public that as at 12am on 9th September 2020:

Considerable change has continued to occur in The Turks & Caicos Islands’ COVID-19 position since the previous update. Fourteen (14) new cases of COVID-19 have been identified, all being located on the island of Providenciales. Seven (7) cases are contacts of known confirmed cases, six (6) cases are still under investigation with no clear epidemiological link and one (1) case is a traveller from a country with sustained local transmission.

Two (2) new recoveries have been recorded, bringing The total number of recoveries to two hundred and sixty-six (266). The number of active confirmed cases in the TCI has risen to three hundred and fifty-six (356). Three (3) confirmed cases continue to be under hospital care. The Public Health Team continues to implement aggressive contact tracing and control measures in relation to all active cases.

Total confirmed positive cases identified in the TCI has increased to six hundred and twenty-eight (628). No new covid-19 related deaths have been recorded. the total number of covid-19 related deaths remains at five (5).

Fifty-nine (59) new test results have been recorded by the National Public Health Laboratory, confirming fourteen (14) individuals positive and forty-five (45) individuals negative for COVID-19. To date, the TCI has recorded a total of two thousand eight hundred and three (2803) test results, with two thousand one hundred and seventy-five (2175) confirmed to be negative and six hundred and twenty-eight (628) positive confirmations. All persons confirmed not to have COVID-19, and any contacts, (if quarantined, will be removed from quarantine/observation status) are asked to continue following proper guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health advises the public that as at 12am on 8th September 2020:

The Turks & Caicos Islands has seen considerable change in its COVID-19 position since the previous update. Fifteen (15) new cases of COVID-19 have been identified, with THE ISLAND OF South Caicos recording its first confirmed case and all others being located on the island of Providenciales. Seven (7) cases are contacts of known confirmed cases and eight (8) cases are still under investigation with no clear epidemiological link.

The total number of recoveries remains AT two hundred and sixty-four (264). The number of active confirmed cases in the TCI now stands at three hundred and forty-four (344). Four (4) confirmed cases continue to be under hospital care. The Public Health Team continues to implement aggressive contact tracing and control measures in relation to all active cases.

Total confirmed positive cases identified in the TCI has increased to six hundred and fourteen (614). No new covid-19 related deaths have been recorded, leaving the number of covid-19 related deaths at five (5).

Fifty-six (56) new test results have been recorded by the National Public Health Laboratory, confirming fifteen (15) individuals positive and forty-one (41) individuals negative for COVID-19. To date, the TCI has recorded a total of two thousand seven hundred and forty-four (2744) test results, with two thousand one hundred and thirty (2130) confirmed to be negative and six hundred and fourteen (614) positive confirmations. All persons confirmed not to have COVID-19, and any contacts, (if quarantined, will be removed from quarantine/observation status) are asked to continue following proper guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

Persons under observation/quarantine, that are not confirmed or suspected cases, are either not displaying symptoms or have not met the case definition.

To date, a total of 2,091 individuals have been released from quarantine/observation status.

SUSPENSION OF SERVICES AT THE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE CLINIC IN GRAND TURK

The Primary Health Care clinic on the island of Grand Turk will be closed during the week of September 7th 2020. This is to facilitate contact tracing and other public health activities on the island of Grand Turk. During this time, residents are to visit the Cockburn Town Medical Centre if in need of medical attention.

Persons are reminded to contact the health hotlines if experiencing symptoms or signs of Covid-19 which may include; fever, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea and loss of the sense of smell/taste. Please do not visit health care facilities if you have symptoms unless they are severe.

The Ministry of Health wishes to remind the general public to take the relevant precautions at all times to prevent the spread of Covid-19;

  1. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds
  2. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not accessible
  3. Cover your cough/sneeze with your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of it
  4. Wear face coverings in public
  5. Practice social distancing of 6 feet
  6. Stay home if you have symptoms of Covid-19 and call the health hotlines on 232 9444 or 333 0911
  7. Avoid mass gatherings
  8. Avoid non-essential travel including local, regional and international travel
  9. Cooperate fully with contact tracing teams if you are contacted
  10. Do not discriminate against persons suspected of having Covid-19

MINISTRY OF HEALTH APPROVES TWO PRIVATE FACILITIES TO CONDUCT TESTING FOR COVID-19

Today, 7th September 2020, in accordance with the Public and Environmental Health (Testing of Covid-19) Regulations 2020 (Legal Notice 35 Of 2020), two private facilities were approved to commence testing for Covid-19.

These represent the first facilities which have received such approval from the Ministry of Health as required by the Testing of Covid-19 Regulations which outlines the application process and requirements for those facilities wishing to undertake testing either locally or through the referral of samples overseas to accredited laboratories for testing. An application process was undertaken in which interested facilities were required to submit documentation outlining standard operating procedures to conduct testing, collect samples, safety procedures, proper disposal of waste, protocols, details of staff training, particulars of equipment to be utilised as well the of submission of other relevant supporting documentation which had to meet required standards.

Approval was granted on the basis that only RT PCR testing can be carried out and that only asymptomatic individuals i.e. persons who do not have symptoms or signs consistent with Covid-19, can be tested. This does not include testing individuals identified through contact tracing. Other conditions for the approval were also stipulated in writing which included reporting requirements to the Ministry of Health as Covid-19 is a notifiable disease and the management of the Covid-19 pandemic is a Public Health responsibility.

The general public is reminded to adhere to the health guidelines to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19 including:

  1. Washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  2. Using hand sanitizer if soap and water are not readily available
  3. Covering your cough/sneeze with your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of it
  4. Wear face coverings in public
  5. Practice social distancing of 6 feet
  6. Staying home if you have symptoms of Covid-19 and call the health hotlines on 232 9444 or 333 0911
  7. Avoid crowded settings
  8. Avoid non-essential travel including local, regional and international travel
  9. Cooperate fully with contact tracing teams if you are contacted
  10. If you are placed in quarantine, remain at home for the prescribed time
  11. Do not discriminate against persons suspected of having Covid-19, anyone can be affected
