Except in the case of emergencies, the National Public Health Laboratory currently operates a 6-day work week to allow for appropriate deep cleaning and other preparatory work to be done on Sundays. As such, regular activities are minimized or suspended during weekends to allow for such processes to be completed.

As such, no change has occurred in the Turks & Caicos Islands’ COVID-19 position since the previous update. The number of active confirmed cases in the TCI remains at three hundred and twenty-nine (329). Five (5) confirmed cases continue to be under hospital care. The Public Health Team continues to implement aggressive contact tracing and control measures in relation to all active cases.

The total number of recoveries stands at two hundred and sixty-four (264). total confirmed positive cases identified in the TCI to date remains at five hundred and ninety-nine (599). No new covid-19 related deaths have been recorded, leaving the number of covid-19 related deaths at five (5).

No new test results have been recorded by the National Public Health Laboratory, due to Sunday closure for deep cleaning. To date, the TCI has recorded a total of two thousand six hundred and eighty-eight (2688) test results, with two thousand and eighty-nine (2089) confirmed to be negative and five hundred and ninety-nine (599) positive confirmations. All persons confirmed not to have COVID-19, and any contacts, (if quarantined, will be removed from quarantine/observation status) are asked to continue following proper guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

The number of persons in quarantine/observation remains 876. This includes: Confirmed cases (329), primary and secondary contacts of confirmed cases (547). Persons under observation/quarantine, that are not confirmed or suspected cases, are either not displaying symptoms or have not met the case definition.

To date, a total of 1,744 individuals have been released from quarantine/observation status. 

Local testing is being conducted for persons in a range of categories, according to the national testing strategy. This includes frontline workers and those who may need to travel for treatment abroad. These persons would not be reflected in quarantine numbers.

The public is strongly urged to follow all health advice and guidelines from the Ministry, especially as we progress with the phased reopening.

Seven (7) new caseS of covid-19 has been identified, with one (1) new case located in Grand Turk and all others located on the island of providenciales. All are contacts of known confirmed cases.

Joint TCI Hospital and TCI Government Press Release

InterHealth Canada - Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital is saddened to announce the country’s fifth COVID-19 related death.

The patient passed away at the Cockburn Town Medical Centre – Emergency Department on the evening of Monday August 31st, 2020 and presented in a medical state that worsened shortly after admission.

While the individual was not known to be symptomatic for COVID-19, a swab was taken as a precautionary measure and submitted to the National Public Health Lab for testing. The death is now officially classified as COVID-19 related.

The Public Health Team continues to conduct contact tracing efforts. The TCI Hospital and the Ministry of Health wish to extend our deepest condolences to the grieving family and friends on the unfortunate loss of their loved one.
