OFFICE OF THE COMPLAINTS COMMISSIONER’S FIRST ART POSTER AND BILLBOARD COMPETITION FOR ALL GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOLS

The Complaints Commissioner Mrs. Rita Gardiner OBE (Ombudsman) and her team at the Office of the Complaints Commission to bring about awareness of the Commission, hosted their First Art Billboard and Poster Competition under the theme "Promoting Harmony, Good Governance, and Justice" The poster and the billboard were fun to motivate and inspire the students, public officials and the general public to be familiar with their role and the importance of the Office of the Complaints Commission.

While the role of the Complaints Commissioner is to investigate complaints of maladministration, that is, the name given to a range of failures by public officials in the handling of citizen's dealings with Government Departments and Statutory Bodies as stipulated in the Ordinance, together with promoting effective and efficient services rendered to the community, whilst educating persons about their rights and duties in a free and democratic society, providing a service to the public in fairness, justice and without prejudice to promote harmony and good governance in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The poster and billboard competition within the Government High School aims to help fulfil the Complaints Commission mandate and to bring about awareness of maladministration and how to recognize and report such destructive behaviours within government departments or statutory bodies throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands.

All poster entries included the theme above or a creative quotation related to the above in English. Whilst all the principals or teachers of the Government High Schools were asked to facilitate the competitors in their schools and ensure entries in the poster and the billboard competition were submitted. The TCI Complaints Commission reserved the right to publish and broadcast images from this competition in any of its publications, website, and promotional material. Students who produced outstanding work were required to present them at the Awards Ceremony on 17th February 2023

While all government High School was welcome to participate in the competition, two schools were able to compete, Clement Howell High School, with two (2) students participating and Louise Garland Thomas High School, with six (6) students, participated in the art competition.

The competition was judged by distinguished judges Ms. Alesha Jennings, Mr. Rowan Pratt and Ms. Denyse Renne.

The top five finalists selected by the judge's art pieces will use as billboards and posters around the Turks and Caicos Islands at strategic locations.

1st place: Philove Fradeus - Clement Howell High School

2nd Place: Aaron Rigby - Louise Garland Thomas High School

3rd place: Jlannah Gardiner- Clement Howell High School

4th Place:  Billica Williams- Louise Garland Thomas High School

5th Place: Garry Harris- Louise Garland Thomas High School

Presentations were made immediately following the Judging, and Mrs. Rita Gardiner, OBE (Ombudsman), and her team were pleased that their first initiative was a great success.
