TURKS AND CAICOS POST CABINET MEETING STATEMENT - 26TH JUNE 2024

Her Excellency the Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam chaired the 20th meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday June 26th, 2024, at the Office of the Premier on the island of Providenciales.

All members of Cabinet were present with the exception of H.E Deputy Governor Anya Williams.

At this meeting of Cabinet:

1. Approved an exemption of the Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Taxation HRTT Tax for the hosting of the Turks and Caicos Caribbean Baptist Women Union Conference prayer breakfast.

2. Approved the request for retention of funds from Invest TC’s approved budget estimates fy 23-24.

3. Approved a settlement of Claims made for the unauthorized use of a parcel of land on the island of Grand Turk.

4. Approved the establishment of the Turks and Caicos National Youth Council and further granted approval of the Turks and Caicos Islands National Youth Council Constitution (Operational Manual)

5. Approved the MOT to enter into an agreement with American Airlines for the purpose of establishing a new direct airline route between Miami and South Caicos.

6. Noted and accepted the decision of the project proponents not to proceed with a Development Agreement.

7. Approved the remission from Stamp Duty application in regard to purchases made in reference to Palace Resorts.

8. Approved the request for residential developers to receive concession packages under the Program Housing Concessions for Residential Developers.

9. Rescinded its’ previous approval for Ms. Shanetta Thompson to be appointed as Secretary to the Water and Sewerage Board and granted approval for Dr. Eric Salamanca to be appointed for a period of two (2) years.

10. Noted the Government’s intention to appoint a Special Advisor as permitted under the Code of Conduct and Public Office

11. Was advised that training for the first cohort of Notary Public Officers has been completed.

12. Noted the report from the Minister of Tourism on the TCI receiving awards for the Best Beach and Most Romantic Place.
