TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS POST CABINET MEETING STATEMENT - 24 August 2023

Her Excellency the Governor, Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, chaired the 22nd meeting of Cabinet on Thursday 24 August at the Governor’s Office on Providenciales

All Members were present with the exception of the Hon. Josephine Connolly, Minister for Tourism, Environment, Fisheries and Marine Affairs, Culture and Heritage, Hon. Arlington Alexander Musgrove, Minister of Immigration & Border Services and Her Excellency Anya Williams, Deputy Governor.

At this meeting Cabinet:

  • Approved the waiver of accommodation tax for delegates attending the State of Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC) in Providenciales between 8-13 October 2023. 
  • Approved the Government to enter a lease agreement for the offices of the Department of Public Safety, Utilities in Grand Turk for a period of three years. 
  • Approved the final payment to six persons as directed by a Supreme Court award of damages in relation to unlawful detention.
  • Considered proposals to govern a litter ticketing system across the Turks and Caicos Islands.
  • Approved amendments to the Turks and Caicos Islander Status Ordinance. 
  • Approved the granting of an easement to over Crown Parcel 10101/25 in Grand Turk to facilitate access to Parcel 10101/26. 
  • Agreed options regarding the TCInvest/TOLCO Loan Portfolio and next steps.
  • Approved a waiver of customs duties in respect of construction materials, fixtures and fittings and equipment for Waterloo Hotel Management Limited to refurbish the Blue Haven Resort in Providenciales.
  • Approved a request to have a Casino Licence extended to a period of ten years on the sale of the majority shares to a new owner.
  • Approved the appointment of Raphael Gray as a member of the Physical planning Board for the period 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2025 following the resignation of Mr. Ricardo James.
