Former Athlete Angelo Garland promoted to Head of Sports Performance

The Turks and Caicos Islands Sports Commission is elated to announce a recent promotion within our team in Angelo Garland as Head of Sports Performance. Angelo Garland joined our team as the Sports Performance Coach in 2021 and has since advanced his department and participating athletes from the ground up.

Angelo started his sport journey in 2011 when he competed in the CARIFTA Games for Track and Field. Since then he has competed in the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and IAAF World Relays. He is also the National Record holder for the Indoor 300m, 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay, 4x400m relay and was a NACAC Top 10 finisher in 2022.

The Chi Alpha Sigma inductee attended the Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, studying for a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, with an Exercise Science specialisation. Balancing his studies as a student-athlete, he graduated with Honours in 2017. While in university he was on the Dean’s list from 2014 – 2018 and on the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honour Roll from 2013 – 2018. He then achieved a Master of Science Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise and Sports Performance in 2020.

After completing numerous sports performance internships from 2016 - 2020, Angelo worked as a Physical Education teacher at Allen Elementary and a Sports Performance Coach at Ryze Academy from 2020 – 2021. Among his growing certifications include Personal Training (2021), Nutrition Specialist (2019), Strength and Conditioning (2021) and Performance Enhancement Specialist (2023).



On his promotion, Angelo shared, “I am honoured, humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Head of Sports Performance at the TCI Sports Commission. I am excited to lead the team and work collaboratively to drive growth, foster innovation, and deliver exceptional outcomes for our organisation and country. I know there will be challenges, but with God, my support team, and the members of staff who continuously help me, I am ready to take on this new challenge.”
