Jayden Davis of the Provo Aquatics Club showing promising results at Florida Swim Meets

Competing in two swim meets in Florida this past weekend, Jayden Davis of the Provo Aquatics Club displayed tremendous potential for upcoming meets. Over the span of two days February 5th and 6th 2022, first on schedule was the Plantation 2022 Senior Qualifier then the 2022 Coral Springs Open Invitation.

At the Plantation 2022 Senior Qualifier, Davis competed in the Long Course Meters (LCM) in a 50m pool, exclusively open to swimmers meeting qualifying times prior to the event. There were no heats or preliminaries, which means swimmers had a solo attempt at medaling.

In the 50m freestyle, Davis swam against older and physically demanding opponents, in addition had a rocky start which had the potential to result in poor performance. Midway into the swim, he recovered and surpassed most of the other swimmers, finishing with a time of 28.70s. According to the Swimming Federation, “With a better start, Davis could have shaved his time to a 26s swim, which we believe he will accomplish in the coming weeks to months.”

In the 50m butterfly, he looked to better his 2021 CCCAN time of 31.29s in Puerto Rico. Early into the swim Davis showed evidence that an impressive time would be placed on record. He finished with a time of 30.51s, just short of the magical 30 second barrier.

The second meet, the 2022 Coral Springs Open Invitation hosted a massive competition featuring up to 19 heats in some events. While exhausted from the incredible effort the previous day, Davis exhibited determination and in the 100 yard freestyle, he swam 55.70s, following with the 100m butterfly, which he finished in 1:02.31.

Just a few months away in Barbados, the CARIFTA Swimming Championships 2022 is being held in April. A number of swimmers from the Turks and Caicos Islands are slated to compete, with Davis among them, looking to bring some gold medals back to the beautiful Turks & Caicos Islands.

Congratulations Davis!
