TCISS Inter-High Basketball Championship Weekend 2023/24
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, January 31, 2024 - Just one week after the Inter-High Softball Championships in Grand Turk, the top four high school basketball teams meet for their competition. Since the season's takeoff in November, a tremendous level of competitiveness was shown by the players, resulting in unexpected top-four schools making it to the playoffs.
In Group A, the HJ Robinson High School (HJRHS) Stallions ranked number one with no losses after playing five games and the British West Indies Collegiate (BWIC) Spartans followed second with one loss. This loss to BWIC arrived in Grand Turk when they faced the Stallions on their home court in December.
The top scorer from HJRHS is Onai Lightbourne (#8) who racked up 63 points all season. C. St. Juste (#1) and Davaurii Daniel (#11) follow behind with 59 and 58 points respectively.
From the BWIC, Samuel Harvey (#7) dominated for his school in the paint, totalling 81 points with Ayden Musgrove and David Hall both totalling 53 points each.
In Group B, the reigning champions Clement Howell High School (CHHS) Eagles had an easy run with no losses, racking up historic final scores with extensive gaps. Following in second is the Wesley Methodist (WM) Stingrays with one loss who are new to the conversation this year, after failing to progress last season.
D. Patunski (#12) garnered the most points for the Stingrays with 109 and G. Sinous (#2) brought in 66.
As for the Eagles, Emrike Daceus (#3) is their top scorer with 80 points. Dashawn Lightbourne (# who is a Marjorie Basden High School transfer debuted for his new school as their second top scorer. He totalled 72 points this season.
The first semi-final game will tip off at 4:00 pm on Friday, February 2nd at the Gustarvus Lightbourne Sports Complex. CHHS will meet BWIC for the first time this season in this game. Following at 5:30 pm semi-final two will see WM face the undefeated HJRHS also for the first time this season.
The outcome of these games will determine who will play in the Championship Round on Saturday, February 3rd also at the Gustarvus Lightbourne Sports Complex. The 3rd place playoffs will tip off at 4:00 pm after the Opening Ceremony at 3:30 pm. Ending the night will be the Championship Game, tip-off at 6:30 pm.
