Strategic Directions
1. Strengthen the capacity of the health workforce
The Ministry recognizes the need to not only increase the number of persons in the health workforce but to also ensure that all such persons are knowledgeable and are equipped with the necessary skillset required to positively impact healthcare to the population at all levels from policy to service delivery.
2. Strengthen delivery of services based on the principles of primary health care
The Ministry recognizes that primary health care is the foundation of health and as such is committed to addressing all of the determinants of health in caring for persons from those who are well to those with chronic diseases across the age spectrum.
3. Strengthen response to identified priority diseases/conditions and programmes
The Ministry recognizes the importance of responding to identified priority diseases and conditions and places particular emphasis on the development and implementation of effective protocols, action plans and public health programmes.
4. Strengthen the provision of high quality health services through established and enforced health policies, regulations and standards
The Ministry not only recognizes the importance of improving the health of individuals but the protection of their health and safety by ensuring high standards of practice by qualified health practitioners engaging in approved evidence based practice. Ensure the financial affordability and sustainability of health care delivery.
The Ministry recognizes the high cost of delivery of secondary and tertiary health care services and the many barriers to accessing health care and is therefore committed to ensuring that affordable and cost effective health care services are accessible equitably at all levels within the communities throughout the TCI.
5. Strengthen inter-sectoral coordination to address priority health problems
The Ministry recognizes that priority problems cannot be solved without coordinated services and programmes involving all health sector partners operating in a well-integrated national health system. This involves the inclusion of health in all policies; health promotion and health protection; and environments conducive for healthy living.
