Established by the Health Professions (Amendment) Ordinance 2020, the Health Professions Authority has the following functions:
- to register and licence health professionals;
- to regulate the professional conduct and discipline of registered practitioners;
- to establish and promote high standards of education and training requirements of registered practitioners; and
- to establish and maintain a system to enable the assessment of the ability and competency of a practitioner for the proper provision of medical services.
The Health Professions Authority will also carry out administrative operations in support of the three health professions Councils:
- The Medicine and Dentistry Professions Council
- The Nursing and Midwifery Professions Council
- The Allied Health Professions and Pharmacy Professions Council”
