Error of Correction
Amending the name of an Infant/Child under 1-year-old
Parents of the child should provide the following documents:
- Birth certificate issued with the name that needs to be changed.
- Sworn affidavit/declaration detailing the amendment needed.
- Error of Correction Form
An alternative route to amend an infant’s name is by way of providing a baptismal certificate showing the name given to the child during his/her baptism ceremony. This certificate must be signed by the minister or the person who performed the baptism ceremony.
Other amendments needed
Applicants are encouraged to reach out the Registrar General’s office via email for more information, so that detailed instructions can be given out on a case by case basis.
Registration and Reprint of Births, Deaths, Marriages and Adoptions
Births
Parents are required to register births within 42 days of the child’s birth. Any registration of birth of birth that happens after 42 days will result in a penalty fee of $200.00 USD. Parents will need the following to register a newborn baby:
- Birth Registration Forms
- 1 (one) Eighty (80c) Stamp
- Marriage Certificate (If Applicable)
- Illegitimate form to add father’s name (if applicable/not married)
- Late birth registration form (if applicable)
- Notarized copies of parent’s passport
- It’s a boy/It’s a girl confirmation card from the hospital.
- Registration fee or Late Registration Fee where applicable
Parents and child are expected to visit the office to submit the requirements to the Registrar. The processing time for a new birth certificate is 4-6 weeks.
Reprints of a birth certificate should be processed through the customer service center with the following:
- Filled application for a reprint of Birth Certificate
- 80cent stamp
- $20.00 reprint fee
Deaths
The tenement of the Household or the person present at the time of someone’s death should visit the Registrar General’s Office to register death. Death Registration must be completed within 21 days of the person’s death. Requirements to register a death include:
- Death Return from Hospital or Pathologist (where applicable)
- Copy of deceased ID
- Police report in the event person died at home.
Funeral homes will complete the registration of deaths in the event they are hired by the family.
Reprints of a death certificate should be processed through the customer service center with the following:
- Filled application for a reprint of Death Certificate
- 80cent stamp
- $20.00 reprint fee
Marriages
The Marriage Officer or Registrar of marriage who conducted the marriage should visit the Registrar General’s Office to submit marriage returns to be registered within the Turks & Caicos Islands.
Requirements to register a Marriage include:
- Marriage Certificate Application
- Marriage Return
- Identification of Bride
- Identification of Groom
- Fees applicable for a Marriage Certificate ($40)
Reprints of a marriage certificate should be processed through the customer service center with the following:
- Filled application for a reprint of Marriage Certificate
- $40.00 reprint fee
Adoptions
Adoptions are registered with the Registrar General’s Office once the process is completed and ordered in the Court. If an adoption order is made in respect of your child, all your rights and duties with regard to the child will be transferred permanently to the adopter
Apostilles
An apostille is a certification validating the authenticity of a document for use in foreign countries. Any document that needs to be apostilled must be submitted to the Customer Service Center along with payment of $100.00. The turnaround time for an apostille can take anywhere between 1-2 weeks.
Deed Poll
A Deed Poll is a legal document that allows an individual to officially change their name without undergoing a court process. Once the name change is complete, it is legally recognized in many countries. Requirements to register a Deed Poll include:
- 3 ORIGINAL COPIES OF A COMPLETED DEED POLL APPLICATION.
- ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR NOTORIZED COPY.
- 2 RECENT PASSPORT PHOTO IDENTIFICATION.
- NOTIRIZED COPY OF PASSPORT.
- LETTER STATING REASON FOR NAME CHANGE.
- FEES:
- ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100.00) OFFICE CHARGES.
- TWO HUNDRED AND TWENT-FIVE DOLLARS ($225.00) GAZETTE PUBLICATION (3 consecutive runs).
Deed polls should be submitted to customer service center to be registered by the Registrar General’s Office once published in the Turks and Caicos Gazette for 3 consecutive runs. The Publishing Department publishes the Gazette weekly, on Fridays and if Friday happens to be a public holiday, then the Gazette is published on the Thursday.
Notices must be submitted by email in Microsoft Word format to atalbot@gov.tc or tcigpublishingdepartment@gmail.com. You should also submit copy of the paid receipt in your email.

All of the Registrations (Wills, Debentures, Bill of Sales, Power of Attorneys etc.)
All other registrations should be sent to the Registrar’s Office in triplicate (3) for completion. Two official copies will be sent to the applicant and one copy will remain with the Registrar’s Office. The registration fee is $100 per registration. Stamp duty fees may apply depending on what is registered.
Application for Marriage Officer and Marriage Registrar
All persons interested in applying for the post of Marriage Officer and Marriage Registrar will require the following.
- Two (2) Passport Photos
- Letter of Support from Head of Church
- Copy of Ordination Certificate
- Two (2) Character References
- Copy of Degree of Theology
- Certified copy of Birth Certificate
- Certified copy of Work Permit (If Applicable)
- Certified copy of Naturalization/PRC (If Applicable)
- Completed Application for Marriage Officer/Registrar Form
Once applications are completed, they should be submitted to the Registrar General’s office for further consideration.
