JOB PURPOSE

This is a specialist position with system wide responsibility for shaping statistical information and economic policies and monitoring the socio-economic indicators used to evaluate the economic out turn and quality of life.  The purpose of this job is to provide professional support in the operation and management of a statistical information system that provides a comprehensive range of statistical products and services. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the Turks and Caicos Islands Housing and Population Census and prepare the ‘Key Findings Report’
  • Develop templates and guidelines for the census thematic reports, ensuring consistency and coherence across all reports.
  • Collaborate with the Authority’s stakeholder agencies and subject matter experts in the preparation of the census thematic reports.
  • Present the key findings and thematic findings to relevant stakeholders and incorporate feedback for finalization.
  • Develop and update a census tabulation plan.
  • Develop life tables based on available demographic data.
  • Generate population projections using appropriate methodologies and data sources.
  • Prepare the life tables and population projections.
  • Contribute to statistical research and technical reports.
  • Evaluate sources of information to determine any limitations in terms of reliability or usability.
  • Evaluate the statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data in order to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Ensure that the international standards, guidelines or good practices are observed in the collection and compilation of statistics and indicators.
  • Maintain standardized documentation of concepts, scope, classification, methodologies and procedures used in the collection and compilation of statistics and indicators.
  • Assist with capacity building and training of the Authority’s staff.
  • Assist with planning of Population and Housing Censuses
  • Represent the Authority on committees, and at meetings, workshops and conferences locally and abroad.
  • Assume responsibility for the Authority’s assets assigned for the execution of the duties of the substantive post.
  • Perform any other relevant duties required for the effective functioning of the Authority.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Demography, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related field.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experiences working in the field of demography or statistics
  • Expertise in demographic analysis, life table construction and population projection methods
  • Experience in handling demographic data and applying demographic models
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Technical report writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, STATA and SPSS or other relevant statistical software
  • Highly disciplined and effective team player
  • Able to handle multiple and complex tasks and meet strict deadlines

COMPENSATION:

SALARY:   $72,000 per annum
