Tax Officer

JOB SUMMARY: 

The incumbent in this position is expected to conduct the necessary activities to get Taxpayers in default to comply with the requirements under the Revenue Ordinances and Regulations and maintain Compliance and Arrears cases assigned by the Assistant Commissioner/Senior Tax Officer.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for all compliance activities on cases assigned to him/her by the Assistant Commissioner/Senior Tax Officer.

Investigates all potential delinquent accounts assigned to him/her.

Responsible for carrying out audits on all accounts based on standard auditing principles and guidelines.

Ensures all activities on Tax Payer cases adhere to relevant revenue/tax Ordinance and Regulations and other relevant ordinances as well as policies.

Ensures that work plans developed by senior management are adhered to and any deviations are reported promptly.

Receives cases by extracting information from taxpayer’s files.

Confirms refunds on the tax system and updating the system where necessary.

Issues Fixed Penalties where applicable and representing Revenue Department in Court as required.

Contacts taxpayers by correspondence and telephone to arrange payment of refunds.

Visits taxpayer premises and holding discussions with regards to account discrepancies and ambiguities.

Prepares monthly reports of activities for Supervisor;

Prepares monthly reports of all Refunds for Supervisor.

Prepares daily reports and findings of all Investigations carried out for Supervisor.

Reports difficult cases to Supervisor with recommendations for further action.

Prepares accounts for uncollectible status and referring to Supervisor for Approval.

Performs other related activities to maintain good public relations and information exchange

Provides advice and assistance to Tax Payers.

Provides advice and recommendations to the Senior Tax Officer on changes to policies and procedures.

 QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is preferred.

At least six (6) years’ experience in related field.

Sound knowledge of compliance and experience in report writing would be an asset. 

COMPENSATION: 

Basic Salary:    Grade 6.1 - $35,794.15 per annum
