JOB SUMMARY:

The job holder is responsible for overseeing all Communication for the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCIG). The successful candidate will work with Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as other stakeholders, to develop and deliver internal and external communication strategies for the TCIG. The position requires a strategic thinker with meticulous attention to detail, skilled at managing staff, working well under pressure, and meeting deadlines. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment. To ensure success, the Director should be innovative, organized, and self-motivated with a keen interest in driving the strategic direction and success of the Communication Directorate in bringing government information to the people.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as the primary on-the-record spokesperson for the Turks and Caicos Islands Government and the primary writer for communications related to the Office of the Premier and Public Policy and other executive-level communications, including news releases, op-eds, speeches, and talk points
  2. Serves as the initial point of contact for all incoming inquiries to the Turks and Caicos Islands Government from reporters and works with the communications team and appropriate staff to develop and coordinate responses
  3. Proactively pitches newsworthy stories, manages breaking news, prepares presentations, and other internal and external communications
  4. Leads the annual and ongoing strategic direction and resource management of the Communications Directorate
  5. Leads the management of the TCI Government brand which includes performing daily analysis and reporting out on print, broadcast and online media to ensure internal awareness of relevant coverage and other matters of interest or sensitivity, as well as to help identify media trends.
  6. Provides strategic communication expertise, counsel, and support to the Government
  7. Acquires and maintains a detailed knowledge of the policies, programmes, and direction of the TCIG, and keeps up to date with developments in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) and the Diaspora
  8. Develops and implements a plan that includes Government public relations and communication, community and media outreach, as well as social media management
  9. Standardizes procedures and guidelines to ensure that the Communications Directorate produces high-quality and error-free reports
  10. Manages the process to archive information for historical reference and retrieval
  11. Design, build, manages and evaluates communication campaigns with the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)
  12. Builds and maintains professional relationships with journalists and key external stakeholders
  13. Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

·    Essential: Master’s Degree in Communication, Public Relations, English, Journalism,           Marketing, or related field of study required.

·    Desirable: Bilingual - A second language other than English is considered value added

Experience

·   A minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years on the job experience in Internal and External     Communication.

·    Extensive list of media contacts.

·    Experience in the public sector is desirable.

·    Campaign or crisis communications experience preferred

SALARY:  Grade 10.1 $78,395.77 per annum
