The Gender Affairs Unit continues its legacy of educating and empowering men and women around the country. We remain true to our mission of improving the quality of life within our communities and enhancing educational and economic opportunities for all.

New Beginning School in Providenciales and in Grand Turk
Empowering young men and women through education: The program was started in Grand Turk in 2001, and is the brain child of the former Director of the Gender Affairs Department, Mrs. Rita Gardiner. The program assists young men and women who did not get to finish their high school education for any reason. The program has been a success from the onset and has turned out many young women who have gone on to achieve success on a personal and educational level. In 2005, the program was started in Providenciales and in 2009 had our first graduation, with a combined class of 2008 and 2009, which was over 40 students, comprising of males and females. Several have gone on to pursue further studies at the Community College and found meaningful jobs. The program continues on Grand Turk and Providenciales.

“Get the knowledge and skills needed for the work place and be empowered for a life time. Aspiring to change lives and making a difference one day at time”.
The school is a community based school, offering courses to equip the students of the community with adequate skills for the future and is funded by the Gender Affairs Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Public Safety and we work closely with the Education Department, in terms of curriculum development for the school. The Education Department also refers students to the program.
Overall principles of the school are to offer day and evening courses at a minimal cost, and to meet the needs of students who are desirous of developing their academic or vocational skills.

The programs of this Institution have a threefold purpose:
- To prepare the students for the world of work
- To impart academic and vocational skills
- To eliminate social ills within the community

- Students who might have dropped out of school prematurely
- Those who might be academically challenged
- Adults seeking for a career change of enrichment
We are presently offering external examinations in the form of CXCs (Caribbean Examinations Council). With this in mind, our students will be given the opportunity to acquire a diploma from an external source along with our internal diploma.
