International Observances
International Girls in ICT Day
Since 2011, on the fourth Thursday in April each year, recognition is placed on encouraging girls to pursue interests in Information, Communication, Technology, STEM and innovation. As women continue to be underrepresented in this field, the day recognizes the many issues women face in this male-dominated field while also encouraging young girls on the importance of closing the gender gap.
Our staff further advocates on behalf of victims while also maintaining relationships with different service providers, such as Social Services and with the Mental Health Department, to better facilitate and coordinate services clients may need or be interested in.
International Day of The Girl Child
On October 11 each year, we observed this day to inspire adolescent girls into developing innovative solutions or leading efforts towards positive social change, including gender equality. This day is also a reminder to break boundaries and take charge of their own future while also advocating for girls rights to live-free from gender based violence and harmful practices against them.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The entire month of October is observed as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. During this month awareness is increased on the ongoing efforts by our Department and also encouraging our communities on the role they can play by identifying the signs. October was declared Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1989 and each year we dedicate time through our educational efforts and encouraging others to speak up about domestic violence and support survivors through different means.
International Men’s Day
Each year on November 19, we acknowledge men’s important roles in every-day life, and we encourage them to be an example for the younger boys across these islands. We also acknowledge their achievements to society, community, and family. Focus is also placed on improving and enhancing men’s health and wellbeing.
