Community Outreach

One of our goals as a Department is to educate and bring awareness to our communities throughout the Turks and Caicos on the issues of Domestic Violence.

Our department coordinates and facilitates outreach and prevention through educational awareness about Domestic Violence (DV) and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).

We engage allies such as law enforcement and NGOs to address the responsibilities of everyone in eliminating Domestic Violence of all forms.

Additional outreach is through coordinating and facilitating training workshops with law enforcement, hospital personnel, social services, and criminal justice personnel such as prosecutors with the Office of Public Prosecutions and attorneys with the Attorney’s General Chambers.

Over the years, our Department has managed to develop lasting relationships with religious leaders to engage diverse religious communities and provide educational awareness of Domestic Violence and the services offered through our Department.

Crisis Intervention

Out Department provides crisis intervention to domestic violence victims as needed. Our staff is equipped with training as required and are fully involved acting as a liaison between victims and persons involved in the investigatory process. Our staff also assists in reducing the number of investigative interviews to be conducted, preparing victims for court proceedings and accompanying the victim to court in obtaining a protection order.

Our staff further advocates on behalf of victims while also maintaining relationships with different service providers, such as Social Services and with the Mental Health Department, to better facilitate and coordinate services clients may need or be interested in.
