The Chief Executive Officer

Registration and licence to Practise:

The CEO shall receive and review all applications on behalf of a council to ascertain whether they are in order before submitting to the particular council for review. If satisfied, the professional council will subsequently instruct the CEO to register the applicant, whose name shall then be added to the particular Register for the profession.

At registration, each professional will be issued a certificate of registration after an appearance at the Health Professions Authority in person. The professional will then be required to complete an application form for an initial “Licence to Practise” along with payment of the requisite licencing fee that is payable annually, and attend an interview by the CEO to satisfy the final requirements for the issuance of the ‘Practice Licence.’ Subsequent to a satisfactory interview and payment of the annual licencing fee, a “Practice Licence” will be issued, along with a copy of the “Code of Ethical Practice of the Health Professions in the Turks & Caicos Islands.”

All health professionals registered in the TCI must become very familiar with the contents of the Code of Ethical Practice and shall abide by all standards stated therein. Registered health professionals are required by law to display their licence in a conspicuous place for the public to view in their principal place of practice.

Re-licensing to Practice:

Annual renewal of licences to practice within the TCI will occur during January – February of the ensuing year. All professionals shall be responsible for submitting their own application for ‘renewal of licence’ to the office of the Health Professions Authority, even if employed at the hospital or elsewhere.

Application forms for “Renewal of Licence to Practice” with the application fee may be submitted to the Health Professions Authority (HPA) three (3) months in advance of the expiry date on the licence. If all its conditions have been satisfied, the council will renew the licence to practice. The HPA will then issue an “Annual Practice License” to the professional after payment of the renewal fee. Applications for renewals submitted after February 28 of each year will attract a ‘late fee’ penalty.

For professionals working in the private sector, the Annual Practice Licence should be displayed in a prominent place within their principal place of work for viewing by the public.

Public Notification:

The Health Professions Regulations 2019 require a registered health professional to hold an identification card, stating their name and profession, and bearing a photograph of the professional. Further, the registered professional is required by law to wear the identification card at all times when at work and interacting with the public.

The names of all health professionals licenced for the current year will be posted at the website of the Health Professions Authority commencing March 1 of each year, after the deadline of February 28 for re-licencing. The listing will be updated as new registrations are made. This will allow members of the public to be aware of which health professionals are not licenced to practice within the TCI at any given time.”
