JOB SUMMARY:

To serve as a general dental practitioner responsible for diagnosing and treating patients, and managing and leading a dental team in providing dental services. The job holder is responsible for comprehensive dental care for the Islands.  They will oversee the operation of the government dental clinic on either Providenciales or Grand Turk at the Hospitals.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Dental Surgeon is responsible for ensuring that adequate service is provided to the Island for which he/she is responsible for.
  • Managing Referrals to Private Practitioners on Island.
  • Preparing departmental reports.
  • Provide a full range of extensive treatments (preventative, restorative and surgical), examples include the giving of injections for infiltrations and nerve blocks, the extraction of teeth, the cutting of cavities with high speed rotary instruments.
  • Plan the appropriate order of treatment, implement, interpret / refine as treatment progresses to final stage.
  • Discuss specific treatment plans, if appropriate, analyze patient information and adapt for individual needs.
  • Use of communication and interpersonal skills to ensure that consent has been obtained, the patient has full understanding of the treatment.
  • Analyze patient information and adapt treatment if appropriate.
  • Provide information and practical advice as appropriate for oral health needs of individuals to enable them to improve and maintain good oral health.
  • Assess, monitor and adapt clinical needs as required to meet needs and capabilities of individual patients.
  • Raise awareness of patient’s own responsibility regarding treatment outcome and long term benefits.
  • Treat patient groups including children and adults and those with multiple complex needs. Understand the needs of patients with anxiety and disabilities and carry out their treatment accordingly.
  • Decide how to implement the overall treatment plan, taking into account the medical and psychological needs of the patient.
  • Adhere to all Public Service rules and regulations.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association (ADA); or other dental school, provided the education and knowledge acquired was substantially equivalent to that of graduates from an ADA approved school.
  • ALL applicants MUST submit legible transcripts as verification of educational requirement. The education MUST be from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency.
  • Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice dentistry in the country where he or she is coming from.

EXPERIENCE:

At least one year of professional dentistry experience and demonstrated experience in people management.

SALARY: Grade 8.1 $73,525 per annum (Health Sector Scale)

For persons recruited outside of the Turks & Caicos Islands a two-year extendable contract is offered. Other benefits in addition to basic salary include a Housing Allowance, End-of contract gratuity of 6%, return passages for a family of up to two children under the age of 18 years, freight cost and duty exemption on personal effects imported within six months of the appointment.
