JOB SUMMARY:

The Psychiatric Social Worker of the Department of Social Development will apply specialized clinical knowledge and advanced clinical skills in the areas of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, behavioral and developmental disorders, conditions and addictions. He/she will be a member of an interdisciplinary team consisting of other social workers in our department, health care practitioners, mental health practitioners, law enforcement and any other key stakeholders. This social worker will provide direct service and assessment, crisis intervention and consideration for diagnosis formulation. Additionally, he/she will be expected to identify any emotional or behavioral disturbances, provide treatment and therapeutic intervention and psycho-education to the individuals and their family members for social rehabilitation. The psychiatric social worker will also provide outreach services to identified individuals and/or groups with mental health disorders. He/she must be familiar with all aspects of psychopathology and recognize the appropriate and timely clinical treatment intervention needed. Additionally, this social worker must be familiar with and have expertise in a variety of treatment modalities including individual, child, group and family therapy. The majority of this position will be spent in direct patient care.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct timely and appropriate assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning and intervention to individuals.
  2. Consults with the social work management team, statutory and voluntary agencies and client's relatives to ensure compliance with the client's treatment plan once it has been formulated and implemented.
  3. Provides individual and /or group therapy for individuals diagnosed with a mental illness.
  4. Conducts steady outreach with individuals in the community diagnosed with a mental illness.
  5. Refers patients, or family members to community resources/specialists as necessary.
  6. Prepare and maintain appropriate client records and reports. (Including initial assessment, treatment plans, and progress notes).
  7. Follow-up with clients who have dropped out of treatment and encourage them to resume treatment.
  8. Provide emotional support and act as an advocate for clients in order to help them gain access to the services/resources they need.
  9. Assist patient’s reintegration into the community after leaving inpatient programs.
  10. Participate in treatment team meetings
  11. Perform other duties as assigned
  12. Adhere to Public Service codes, rules and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work is required.

Experience:

  • The position requires at least 2 years-experience in psychiatric services, behavioural health setting or psychological counselling.

SALARY:  Grade 7.1 - $44,138.80 per annum
