JOB SUMMARY:

This job provides a proactive and reactive professional media and public relations service for the Communications Directorate, to ensure that the policies, programmes, decisions, and activities of the Office of the Premier, Cabinet and the Turks and Caicos Islands Government (TCIG) are communicated to key stakeholders and the public.

Core Functions:

Managing Media Relationships 

  1. Establish good working relationships with media and manage the media contact database and media monitoring services relevant to the TCIG.
  2. Respond to media enquiries about TCIG’s activities promptly and professionally.
  3. Organise and manage all media visits/events for TCIG, liaising with relevant staff and managing any media on site.
  4. Developing regional and international partnerships

Public Relations

  1. Develop and maintain a Communications Calendar of Activities for planning and scheduling.
  2. Maximise positive media coverage by actively targeting a broad range of local, regional, and international media outlets with articles and features.
  3. Develop press releases related to the Office of the Premier, Cabinet decisions and the Legislature's policies, programmes, decisions, and activities.
  4. Liaise with the Communications Director to discuss stories and other public relations activities relating to the weekly schedule and activities of cabinet, ministries, and statutory bodies.

Social Media Management

  1. Coordinate all social media platforms assigned to the Communications Directorate and ensure they remain engaging and active, including occasionally live broadcasting from events.
  2. Coordinate and contribute towards the content for TCIG’s website and other social media channels by providing text, photographs, and audio-visual material.
  3. Create social media accounts (Instagram, Snap Chat and YouTube etc.) on behalf of the Premier and manage content for the same.
  4. Design flyers for events, government communications and social media.

Other

  1. Assist with the organisation of files for storage and archiving.
  2. Always ensure confidentiality, only releasing information as approved.
  3. Ensure that press articles, media releases and other information disseminated relates to the work of the Cabinet and the Legislature and is not political in nature.
  4. Keep abreast of professional, technological, and digital best practice, methods and services that could enhance the service.
  5. Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules, and regulations.

Perform other related tasks as assigned.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Qualifications:                

·   A Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related discipline.

·   Adobe Creative Suite skills are an asset.

Experience:          

· The job holder must possess a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the field of journalism/mass communication/public relations or another related field. Experience in a Public Service setting would be an advantage.

SALARY: Grade 7.1 $42,853.20 per annum plus allowances
