International Coastal Cleanup Day 2015

International Coastal Clean-up Day
Saturday September 19, 2015:

'FIGHTING FOR TRASH-FREE SEAS'
In 2014, 168 people collected 279 bags of trash nation-wide.
How will TCI do this year?

The Department of Environment & Maritime Affairs (DEMA) would like to invite you / your school/business/organisation/church to get involved in International Coastal Clean-up Day and fight for trash-free seas!

 

HOW:

Coordinate an underwater / beach / bush clean-up in your immediate area.

WHEN:

Early morning (07:00 - 09:00), Saturday 19 September 2015 (to beat the heat!)

WHAT YOU WILL NEED (also see the attached brochure 'Let's Clean up Our Beaches' for tips):

  • Gloves
  • Water (make sure everyone remains properly hydrated - we would like to encourage the use of re-usable water bottles)
  • Trash Bags
  • You may want to keep a first aid kit handy in the event of cuts or scrapes
  • You may also want to use the attached data form to document the type of trash collected. This is not mandatory, but if you do decide to use it, please submit a copy to DEMA after the clean up.

WHAT TO DO NOW:

  • Register your committment in taking part to Amy Avenat - DEMA Environment Outreach Coordiantor, by no later than 11 September 2015. You can do so by responding positively to this email or calling 338-4176 / 341-4321

WHAT TO DO ON THE DAY (and a few days before):

  • Arrange for proper disposal of the collected trash
  • Submit the following information to DEMA:
    • Organisation name
    • Number of clean-up participants
    • Location of trash collection (and whether it was underwater/beach/bush)
    • Number of bags collected
    • Amount of time spent collecting trash
    • Photographs of you / your organisation and the trash collected
    • If you used the data form please submit this too.
