THE DEPARTMENT OF MARITIME AND SHIPPING
The Department of Maritime and Shipping (DMAR) is the Maritime Administration of Turks and Caicos Islands. Coupled with its customer service focus, it applies the most modern standards of safety with competitive fiscal to meet the needs of vessel owners. Turks and Caicos Islands has modern national legislation, covering all aspects of safety, security and the requirements for cleaner oceans.
Established under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, its offices are located in Providenciales and Grand Turk.
The offices are open from 08:30 to 16:30 Monday to Thursday and Friday from 08:30 to 16:00.

Key Functions of the DMAR include to:
• Maintain and administer ships register; registration and certification of commercial vessels in accordance to the TCI Merchant Shipping Ordinance.
• Discharge flag and Port State responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner;
• Conduct regular inspections of ships to ensure maritime safety and prevention of maritime pollution based on the Merchant ‘Small Commercial Vessel’ Regulations;
• Licensing and examination of seafarers;
• Conduct investigations into maritime casualties;
• Regulate and monitor TCI waters.
• Co-ordinate the implementation of policies relating to maritime affairs;
• Advise Government on the implementation of international conventions and treaties;
• Assist in the Coordination of Search and Rescue efforts in partnership with other stakeholders.
