Safety Tips
There are several steps that safe boaters leaving the dock:
- Be sure to check engine, sail and rigging before getting underway.
- Ensure that there is enough fuel for the trips you are about to make.
- Check the weather forecast – don’t leave if storms are predicated.
- Make sure that you leave a “float plan with someone reliable including where you are going, how many persons are on board and when you excepted to be return.
- Ensure that you have the basic safety equipment on board:
- Life jackets
- Flares
- VHF Radio
- Horn or sounding signal device
- Fire extinguisher
- Life buoy or throw ring
- Anchor with rope
