TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS POST CABINET MEETING STATEMENT - Wednesday 7 April 2021

His Excellency the Governor, Nigel Dakin, chaired the 7th meeting of Cabinet on Wednesday 7 April 2021 at the Office of the Premier on Providenciales.

All members were present.

At this meeting Cabinet:

 

Was given an update by the Ministry of Health on the measures being taken to address and mitigate against the threat of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) to the country, including

  1. surveillance testing through the use of lateral flow devices and PCR;
  2. the progression of the uptake of the COVID vaccine(s),
  3. staffing plans for both the Cheshire Hall Medical Center on Providenciales and the Cockburn Town Medical Center on Grand Turk, and
  4. overall compliance by businesses and persons with the current COVID-19 measures and protocols.

Approved amendments to the Turks and Caicos Islands and Environmental Health (Covid-19 (Control Measures) Regulations to make provisions for Official Funerals, allowing a maximum of 50 persons plus 20 government officials - not including the Police Officers participating in the funeral - for outdoor funerals (only).

Were updated on ongoing works by the Ministries of:

  1. Immigration,
  2. Infrastructure,
  3. Health,
  4. Tourism,
  5. Education,
  6. Finance, as well as
  7. the Office of the Premier.

Approved the appointment of Stuart Taylor as Deputy Director of Gaming Inspectorate for a period of 4 months with effect from 12 April 2021.
