Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands - Friday, 6 February 2026: The Department of Library Services is hosting a Black History Month Essay competition for all primary school students to promote awareness of the significance of Black History Month and celebrate successful Turks and Caicos Islanders. The essay topic is “A Successful Black Person from Turks and Caicos who I admire.”
The competition is open to students aged 7–9 and 10–12 (age eligibility up to March 31, 2026). Essays must meet the word limits for each age group:
150-250 words for the 7-9 age group,
250-400 words for the 10-12 age group.
This must be written in Standard English and may be handwritten or typed.

All entries must include the Student’s First and Last Name, Name of School, Age, and Guardian Contact Information.
A panel of judges will select a winner and two runners-up from each island.
Essays will be judged on relevance to the topic, organization, use of examples, writing accuracy, creativity, cultural knowledge, structure and clarity.
