CLEAN-UP INITIATIVE - COMBATING AND PREVENTING PUBLIC HEALTH RISKS IN PREPARATION FOR THE HURRICANE SEASON

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands - Thursday, 21 May 2026: In response to recent confirmed cases of Hantavirus, the Environmental Health Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Human Services, is launching a community-driven clean-up initiative aimed at safeguarding public health ahead of the upcoming hurricane season.

Objective: The primary objective of this initiative is to reduce and mitigate public health risks by addressing environmental conditions that contribute to the spread of vector-borne and rodent-related diseases. Specific areas requiring urgent clean-up have already been identified. The success of this initiative is dependent on active community participation and collaboration.

Call for Participation: Businesses with valid licenses in the following categories are invited to participate:

  • Contractor – Petty
  • Contractor – Small
  • Maintenance / Cleaning Services
Your participation is critical in helping to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, reduce rodent harborage, and improve environmental sanitation, thereby contributing to a safer and healthier community.
 
Submission of Documents: Businesses interested in participating are requested to submit a copy of their valid business license at the Environmental Health Department's office of the island you intend to participate on. The relevant documents should be delivered on May 22nd 2026 from 10:00am to 12:00 Noon .
 
Selection and Assignment Process:
  • Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, as opportunities are limited. 
  • Each approved business will be assigned one designated clean-up location only. 
  • Business licenses must be in the name of the applicant. 
  • Successful applicants will be contacted and provided with specific site assignments.
 How to Participate
  1. Confirm that your business falls within one of the eligible categories.
  2. Prepare all required documentation.
  3. Submit your documents at the designated Environmental Health office within the specified time.

This initiative forms part of the Government’s proactive measures to strengthen public health preparedness, environmental sanitation, and disaster resilience ahead of the hurricane season.
