HEALTH DELEGATION VISITS LEADING HEALTH CARE FACILITIES IN COLOMBIA

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands - Wednesday, 11 February 2026: A high-level health delegation recently concluded a strategic visit to several leading health care facilities in Colombia as part of efforts to explore potential partnerships under the Treatment Abroad Programme.

The mission aimed to assess hospitals capable of delivering a wide range of complex, tertiary-level services and to evaluate their suitability for strategic collaboration. The delegation comprised senior representatives from the Ministry of Health and Human Services led by Honourable Minister of Health and Human Services, Kyle Knowles, Permanent Secretary - Mrs. Desiree Lewis, Chief Medical Officer – Dr Nadia Astwood, Contract Performance Manager – Ms. Florinda Talbot, CEO Health Regulations Authority - Mrs. Romaine Missick-Smith, Executive Administrator – Ms. Jasmine Malcolm, from the National Health Insurance Progamme, Interim CEO and Medical Director - Dr Pharez George, Ms. Simone Johnson – Clinical Services Manager and Mrs. Rosalie Ingham-Hall – Provider Services Manager and from TCI Hospital – Mr. Ralph Patrick, Finance Manager.

Facilities visited included:

Bogotá

  • Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá
  • LaCardio
Cali
  • Clínica Occidente
  • Fundación Valle del Lili
  • Clínica Imbanaco

Medellín

  • Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe

During the visits, each institution provided comprehensive presentations on clinical services, international patient programmes, logistics and support systems, followed by guided tours of key facilities, service areas and amenities.

All hospitals were selected based on their international accreditation by Joint Commission International (JCI), the globally recognised leader in health care accreditation. JCI accreditation provides an objective assessment of quality and patient safety. Other factors included clinical outcomes, provisions for international patients, and overall value for money.

Each facility demonstrated a strong commitment to patient-centred care and had extensive experience serving international patients. This included established arrangements with international health insurance providers across the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean, including Dutch territories and English-speaking Caribbean countries.

The hospitals operate dedicated international patient departments offering end-to-end logistical support, including air ambulance coordination, airport transfers, appointment scheduling, and access to discounted accommodation for patients and accompanying family members.

Highlights across the facilities included the availability of advanced, multidisciplinary services supported by state-of-the-art equipment. These included cutting-edge imaging, radiotherapy, image-guided interventions, minimally invasive procedures, a full range of cancer treatments, complex orthopedic and neurosurgery, cardiac interventions and targeted therapies designed to reduce hospital stays and improve patient outcomes to name a few. A strong emphasis on academic advancement and continuous innovation was also evident.

Commenting on the mission, the Honourable Knowles stated: “This fact-finding mission allowed members of the delegation to engage directly with medical teams to assess service offerings, patient experience, and clinical outcomes. We remain committed to expanding our network of providers under the Treatment Abroad Programme, with a focus on high-quality, internationally accredited institutions that offer comprehensive services, cutting-edge care, positive patient outcomes, dedicated international patient support, and value for money. These visits were highly productive, and further information on these engagements will be shared in due course.”
